IDUKKI: A plane made a successful landing at the airstrip in Sathram in Vandiperiyar. There were two failed attempts at this airstrip before. The barrier at the end of the airstrip built at 650 meters was an obstacle to landing.
The state government has completed the Sathram Airstrip project at a cost of Rs.13 crores. The airstrip was built with the objective of training NCC cadets to fly small planes. The construction work of the runway was completed and test flights were conducted in April and June but were unsuccessful. Then the experts suggested that the embankment adjacent to the runway should be removed. It was only after this was removed that the plane was able to land.
