Cristiano Ronaldo has always been an integral part of the Portugal national football team. He is considered as one of the GOAT (greatest of all time) players in world football but he was unable to give much contributions to the team that matches his talent. Although Portugal qualified for quarters, the footballer could only score a goal for the team. Also, excluding Ronaldo from the playing XI for the last match against Switzerland was also much discussed on social media.
Many media reported that Ronaldo threatened to leave the world cup in protest of not including him during the first half of the match. Now Portugal Football Federation has come up with a public statement in this matter.
The Football Federation has denied all these rumours and said that they are satisfied with the player’s talent and performance. Meanwhile, Portugal coach Fernanado Santos revealed that dropping Ronaldo from the playing Xi was part of a strategy and there had been no issues with the footballer regarding this. Santos' response was that he and Cristiano collectively took that decision and that he is a player who understands what’s best for the team.
