THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Liquor outlets in the state witness record sales on the New Year's eve. The figures indicate that the sale of liquor worth Rs 107.14 crore was done last day alone.
The outlet at the Power House Road in the capital city had the highest turnover- sales hit Rs 1.12 crore yesterday. The Kollam Ashram outlet came second with sales of Rs 96.59 crore. The lowest sales were recorded in Kasaragod Battathur. Only 10.36 lakh rupees worth of liquor was sold from here. All the outlets in the state sold liquor worth over Rs 10 lakhs. A total of Rs 686.28 crore worth of liquor was sold in the state during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. 600 crores will be received by the government in taxes through this. Rum is the beverage that was sold the most.
Last year, liquor worth Rs 95.67 crore was sold in the state on New Year's Eve. During the 10 days between Christmas and New Year, liquor sales were Rs 349.32 crore. Last year more alcohol was sold on Christmas Day than this year. 54.82 crores worth of liquor was sold last Christmas, compared to Rs 52.3 crores this year.
