Former students to give Rs 10 lakh worth rare farewell gift to retiring teacher

teacher-retiring

KOCHI: EG Babu is a revered teacher among his pupils. But sadly for the students, the veteran will bid adieu to a long service that has inspired many young minds. On his farewell from teaching service, his old students are ready with a parting gift that will strike many hearts.

A financially downtrodden family will be supported in full by these former students to help conduct a marriage. The good fortune landed on a former student of this school Mithun who will wed Unnimaya.

Even though Kizhambram school is going to be the venue for the marriage, EG Babu is retiring now from Udayamperoor SNDP school. It was decades back that EG Babu worked at the Kizhambram school. But his five years there were instrumental in the school achieving a record pass percentage for the 12th grade. The 2006-11 batch students from this school are the ones conducting this noble deed for their beloved faculty.

Unnimaya's father comes from the fishing community. It went arduous for him to conduct the marriage function with debts mounting every day for the family. Eights months before Unni Maya and Mithun got engaged, but due to financial distress, the marriage nearly got called off.

Now, the former students have given back life to these two families in distress.

The marriage to be held in Kizhambram school will be attended by SNDP general secretary Vellapally Nateshan. Ten lakhs have been procured by the former students for the marriage. The marriage will be a simple event devoid of any grandiosity.
