KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again Swapna Suresh, a former official of the UAE Consulate and the first accused in the gold smuggling case, and Sarith a former official of the UAE Consulate, in the case of paying a bribe of Rs 4.48 crore to get the LIFE Mission flat construction contract in Wadakkanchery.
The ED registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002 (PMLA) on the revelation of Unitac owner Santhosh Eapen that he had paid a bribe to get the contract. ED's assessment is that the Rs 1 crore found in Swapna's locker is the share of the bribe. The ED questioned her again to gather more information about this.
