WASHINGTON: The Trump administration's new move has hit more than 6,800 foreign students at Harvard University. The Trump administration informed yesterday that it will ban foreign students from Harvard University. More than 800 students from India alone study at Harvard University. The administration's new move has put students who have come to Harvard from various countries in a crisis.
According to university records, more than 800 students and scholars from India enroll in various courses at Harvard every year. 799 Indian students are presently studying here. Most of them have enrolled in graduate courses. If the administration's new rule comes into effect, students who want to continue in the United States will have to shift to another institution or face legal action.
The administration has also stated that the new decision is part of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security into the university. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has sent a letter to Harvard University in this regard. 'Harvard University is responsible for the violence, anti-Semitism, and collaboration with the Chinese Communist Party on campuses. Access to the university for international students is not a right, it is a privilege,' she wrote in the article. Kristi Noem also stated in the letter that if students want to recover their Exchange Visitor Program certificates for the next academic year, they must provide the information within 72 hours.
The new move by the Trump administration will result in international students presently at the university being transferred to other centers or losing their legal status, the Department of Homeland Security said. Harvard University has also recorded a response in this regard. The university in a statement said the Trump administration's action is a serious consequence for the university. 'The administration's move is not legal. The university is committed to providing admission to students and scholars from more than 140 countries and enriching the country,' the statement said.
The Trump administration's action is reported to affect 6,800 international students at Harvard. Harvard is one of the universities where many students, including from India, study. Last year alone, 6,700 international students were admitted to Harvard. Earlier, Donald Trump had stopped the administration's financial assistance to Harvard University. This retaliatory action came after the university blocked Trump's move to intervene in the course admission process. Trump had explained that he would not provide $ 2 billion in aid until his demands were met.
