RAS AL KHAIMAH: A housemaid suffered serious burns after a gas cylinder exploded in the UAE. The accident happened in a house in Wadi Esfita, about 96 kilometres south of Ras Al Khaimah city. The house suffered serious damages in the explosion. The Asian housemaid, aged 40, who is seriously injured is under treatment.

Musabah Muhammad Al-Laili, one of the residents of the house, said that he and his family had a narrow escape. The family members of the house gathered at Musabah’s late father’s home, every Friday, when the explosion happened. As the entire family was there, everyone had a narrow escape. The housemaid was first admitted at Fujair Hospital and later was shifted to Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital. She is in the intensive care unit.

‘We heard a big sound in the evening. At first, we thought someone was banging on the door. Then one of the housemaids called out fire, fire. We rushed and found our home damaged. The explosion was after a rat chewed the hose of the gas cylinder, causing a leak. The door of the kitchen was blown nearly 50 metres away. Utensils melted, the air conditioner and the refrigerator were damaged, plastic ceiling collapsed, fans and other equipment were shattered,’ said Musabah.
