ABU DHABI: The new academic year began on April 6, but students in Indian schools across UAE are staying at home. All the children who dreamed of returning to school wearing new uniforms with trendy bags are cloistered at home in front of screens, attending online classes. Schools have moved to online classes this year in the context of the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Some parents were relieved that they could save the money they usually need to splash out during school opening times. Earlier, when schools opened, parents used to spend around 1,000 to 1,500 dirhams (25,758 to 3,8638 rupees) on buying uniforms, books and other essentials. However, opting for online classes helped many parents not drain their pockets. On the other hand, parents have to spend money on phones and laptops for their children to study. Perhaps, if schools open immediately, a double expense scenario stares in their face.
Moreover, it is very difficult for working parents to leave their children at home alone. Therefore, many have chosen to work from home. Those who cannot do so have hired nannies to look after their children. Considering the current state, there is no clue when the schools will resume functioning in the Gulf countries.
