LOS ANGELES: As the Oscar Awards ceremony returns to its glory following the pandemic period, all eyes will be on 'The Power of the Dog', directed by New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion. The 94th Oscars will be announced at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood from 5.30 am on Monday.

The film that won the Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards for best film and best director has 12 Oscar nominations. It is followed by Dune (10), West Side Story (7), Belfast (7) and King Richard (6).

Jane is the first woman to be nominated twice for the best director award. Her first nomination was in 1993 for The Piano. The winner was Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List back then. If she wins the Oscar this time, Jane will become the third woman to achieve this feat after Kathryn Bigelow and Chloe Zhao.

Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza), Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), Steven Spielberg (West Side Story) and Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car) were nominated for best director.

Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick....Boom!), Will Smith (King Richard), and Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth) are nominated for the best actor.

Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tommy Faye), Olivia Coleman (The Lost Daughter), Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) and Kristen Stewart (Spencer) are competing for the best actress.
