THRISSUR: A judicial investigation has begun into the incident where a member of a gang that looted three ATMs in Thrissur was shot dead by Tamil Nadu police while attempting to escape. As part of the investigation announced by the Tamil Nadu government, a magistrate recorded statements from the accused in jail on Saturday.
The body of Jalaluddin (37), who died in the shootout, has been kept in the mortuary after post-mortem at Sanghagiri Government Hospital. His relatives from Haryana have arrived. The body will be handed over to the family after completing the formalities. Haryana native Askar Ali, injured in the shootout, is undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Inspector Thavamani and police officer Ranjith Kumar, who were stabbed by the accused, are admitted at Namakkal Pallipalayam Government Hospital. The police had opened fire after being attacked by the suspects.
The arrested individuals were presented at the Namakkal District Court in Tiruchengode and remanded. Kumarapalayam Judicial Magistrate T Malathi is in charge of the judicial inquiry.
Accused won't be immediately handed over to Thrissur Police
The case in Tamil Nadu has more criminal proceedings compared to the Thrissur incident. One accused was shot dead, another was injured, and two policemen were stabbed. Hence, the accused can be handed over to the Kerala Police only after the custody period at the Namakkal police station expires. The accused who are in remand may be taken into custody by the Namakkal police the next day. The Thrissur City Police has also started action to take the accused into custody.
