AYODHYA: The Uttar Pradesh government handed over five acres of land to build a new mosque in Dhannipur, 25 km away from the site where the Babri Masjid stood. The construction work has not yet started on the land allotted as per the directions of the Supreme Court. The Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, which is in charge, says that the main obstacle to the construction of the Muhammad bin Abdullah mosque here is insufficient funds. The only step taken was to open an office in Lucknow in relation to construction.
The aim is to build a modern style mosque to replace the Persian architecture of the Mughals. There are also reports that they intend to make it more beautiful than the Taj Mahal. Along with the mosque, a hospital providing completely free treatment, a library, a history museum and a community kitchen serving free food are also envisioned. The cost is expected to be around Rs 330 crores.
