NEW DELHI: After the CPM, the CPI National Executive has decided to implement age limit criteria from the central leadership to the grassroots and give more representation to the youth, women, Dalits and backward classes in the party.
Explaining the decisions of the National Council, National General Secretary D Raja said the maximum age for the party's National Council and Secretariat would be 75 years. It was also decided to set the limit for branch secretaries at 45 years. It has been suggested that the age limit for district secretaries should be 60 years but it will be decided after further discussion. The guidelines for age, gender and social changes in the party were also approved.
The National Council also discussed preparations for the 24th Party Congress to be held in Vijayawada from October 14 to 18. The National Council pointed out that the Left parties should be further strengthened by learning from the assembly elections in five states. Secular parties should also be brought together. The agitation by the trade unions will be supported. The National Council has condemned the central government's move to cut EPF interest rates.
