Fire at judge’s bungalow leads to huge cash recovery

NEW DELHI: A huge pile of cash was recovered from the residential bungalow of a judge of the Delhi High Court. The unaccounted cash was seized from the official residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma. The fire force team who arrived to douse the fire that broke out in the building, found the cash.

Justice Yashwant Varma was not at home then the fire broke out at his bungalow. His family informed the fire force. They reached and doused the flames. As part of routine procedures, they started taking stock of the loss caused by the fire. As part of this, the bundles of notes were found in the search conducted in the rooms. Further inspection revealed that this was unaccounted money. With this, the police informed the higher officials. The matter was later informed to the higher officials of the union home ministry.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was also informed about the seizure of unaccounted money. He immediately convened the Supreme Court Collegium. The members of the Collegium unanimously demanded action against the judge. Following this, reports said that he has been transferred to Allahabad High Court. More stringent action will be taken against Varma after an investigation is conducted. Justice Yashwant Varma is presently a member of the Delhi High Court Collegium.
