One dead, many injured after roof collapses in first terminal of Delhi Airport

NEW DELHI: One person died after the roof of the Delhi Airport collapsed early Friday morning. A taxi driver died after the pillar of the roof fell on him. Reports said many people were injured and of them the condition of three admitted in the hospital is serious. The accident which happened this morning at 5.30 am damaged three cars and other vehicles.

The accident happened in the first terminal of the airport. The roof and the pillar that supported it fell to the ground. Terminal 1 is presently temporarily closed. Check in and services from here have also been suspended due to security reasons.


After the accident at the airport, three units of the fire brigade reached the spot and carried out rescue operations. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu wrote on his X handle that the incident is being monitored and all the injured have been taken to the hospital. Delhi Airport authorities also confirmed that the roof collapsed due to heavy rain.


Several areas of Delhi have been flooded in the heavy rains lashing since Thursday night. Areas like R K Puram and Moti Nagar are flooded. Due to heavy rains, traffic jams are severe in many places in the national capital.
