Raining packages for Bihar, Andhra Pradesh; expressways, airports and special packages

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced special schemes and financial packages for Bihar and Andhra in the Union Budget 2024. A special scheme to build new airports and roads in Bihar was also announced in the budget. It was just a few days before that BJP rejected the proposal from NDA ally Janata Dal demanding special status for Bihar.

Bihar

  • Expressways connecting Patna-Purnia, Buxar-Bhagalpur, Bodhgaya-Rajgir, Vaishali-Darbhanga
  • A double-lane bridge over the river Ganga in Buxar district.
  • 2,400 MV Power Plant at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur District.
  • The states of Bihar, Andhra, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha were included in the Purvodaya scheme for the development of the eastern region of the country. The Finance Minister said that these regions will be made the country's engine to achieve the goal of ‘developed India’.
  • Rs 26,000 crore for highway development
  • New medical colleges
  • Basic development in the field of sports

Andhra Pradesh

  • Priority will be given to infrastructure development projects in railways and roadways in Andhra.
  • Rs 15,000 crore for capital construction
  • Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act and concerns related to it will be addressed quickly.
  • Hyderabad-Bangalore Industrial Corridor
  • Special assistance to farmers
  • Grants for financially backward classes
  • Special mention for Polavaram Dam Project
