NEW DELHI: RSS ideologue S. Gurumurthy, in an interview given to a Tamil media, revealed the reasons that led to the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Gurumurthy said that the central government was preparing to impeach Jagdeep Dhankhar because the ex-Vice President behaved in a way that was not in the interest of the ruling party. This is what led to the situation where Dhankhar had to resign, he revealed. "There was a difference of opinion with the government on some issue. The ruling party has the right to ask him to step down and resign. The government was moving for impeachment. I don't know further details," Gurumurthy said.
The central government and the BJP had stated that Dhankhar resigned due to ill health. Jagdeep Dhankhar's unexpected resignation announcement came on the first day of the monsoon session. He announced his resignation on social media on the evening of July 21 after meeting President Droupadi Murmu. In his resignation letter, he had stated that it had been a privilege to witness India’s “remarkable economic progress” and “unprecedented exponential development” and expressed his gratitude to the members of Parliament. There were reports that the dispute between the central government and Jagdeep Dhankhar over the impeachment proceedings against Justice Yashwant Verma in the case of the discovery of currency notes from his residence in Delhi is what led to the resignation of the Vice President.
