WASHINGTON D.C.: Donald Trump recently asserted that the U.S. President should not be criticised by the Pope, suggesting the Pontiff should refrain from acting like a politician. In response, Pope Leo XIV stated he is "not afraid" of the Trump administration and vowed to continue speaking out against war. The Pope further urged world leaders to find diplomatic exits from the escalating Central Asian conflict.

The friction stems largely from the Pope's criticism of U.S. military involvement in Iran and Venezuela. Trump retaliated on social media, warning Leo XIV to stop "appeasing the far-left" and accusing him of being "weak" on crime and "terrible" at foreign policy. Amidst this digital feud, Trump sparked further controversy by sharing an AI-generated image depicting himself as a Jesus Christ-like figure.

Trump has also dismissed the Pope’s authority, claiming that Leo XIV—the first American to ever hold the papacy—would not be in the Vatican if Trump were not in the White House. In a pointed move, the Pope cancelled his planned July 4th trip to the United States to protest the administration's stances, opting instead to spend the holiday highlighting the plight of migrants.
