YouTuber arrested under wildlife protection act for cooking peacock curry

HYDERABAD: A YouTuber was arrested for cooking the curry of peacock, the national bird of India. Pranay Kumar of Sircilla in Telangana was arrested the other day. He uploaded a video demonstrating how to cook peacock curry using traditional methods. The video had gone viral and some had also showered criticisms. He was later arrested and the video was removed from his YouTube channel.

The forest and forensic departments visited the spot where he cooked the curry and collected the samples of it. A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act. The authorities alleged that such videos encourage the killing of protected wildlife.

The Sircilla SP Akhil Mahajan told media that a case has been registered against Pranay Kumar. He added that various charges have been imposed against him. It has been proved that the accused had cooked peacock meat. Peacock is a Schedule I animal under the Wildlife Protection Act. Killing a peacock is punishable by a minimum of three to seven years in prison.
