THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four police officers have been suspended from service in connection with the incident where a Youth Congress leader was physically assaulted inside the Kunnamkulam Police Station. The action was taken based on the recommendation of the Thrissur Range DIG. The State Police Chief had also received legal advice that departmental action could continue against the accused officers.

The suspended officers are SI Nuhman, CPOs Saseendran, Sandeep and Sajeevan. Another accused officer named Shuhair is currently working in the Local Self-Government Department. Hence, it is not possible to take departmental action against him. The court had earlier registered a criminal case against the four accused policemen.

The incident, which took place on April 5, 2023, came to light after CCTV footage from the police station was released following a legal battle. Youth Congress leader Sujith had questioned the police for threatening his friends on the roadside. This provoked SI Nuhman, who took Sujith to the station and brutally assaulted him. Apart from Nuhman, CPOs Saseendran, Sajeevan and Sandeep also brutally assaulted the youth.
