Customers inside prison compound, delivered by throwing over compound wall; leader of gang that supplies phones and drugs arrested

KANNUR: The main leader of the gang that smuggles narcotics into the Central Jail has been arrested. Kannur Central Police has arrested Majeef, a native of Athazhakunn. Panankavu native Akshay was arrested last month while throwing a mobile phone and bidis into the jail. Two people who were with Akshay at that time escaped. Majeef is one of them.

Akshay was taken into custody by the police for breaking into the prison compound and throwing a mobile phone over the wall. The incident took place on August 24 at around 3 pm. The officers noticed three people breaking into the prison compound. The officers saw this through CCTV footage. The officers on duty outside the prison were instructed to catch them.

The officers saw them throwing banned tobacco products and a mobile phone into the prison compound. The three tried to run away when they saw the police, but Akshay fell to the ground while running. Akshay stated that they had brought the tobacco products and mobile phones for the political prisoners in the jail. He added that items will be thrown inside the prison compound if a signal is received from inside the wall. He also said that he will get Rs. 1,000 if a packet of items is thrown inside.
