KOTTAYAM: A woman and a man have been arrested for stealing temple hundis (cash collection box). The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Anwar Shah (23) of Kizhakkethil House in Anjilimoodu in Krishnapuram's Kappilmekku Muri and Saritha (28), of Shivaji Bhavanam house in Chalakkal Colony in Pallikanakku Muri in Karthikapally's Krishnapuram Village.

The accused broke open the hundi of the Vaikuntapuram temple and stole money. After the incident, the temple officials lodged a complaint. Subsequently, the Vaikom police registered a case and after investigation, the duo was arrested from Ettumanoor. The police informed that the arrested woman and the man are accused in several theft cases.

Saritha and Anwar Shah have been living together for almost three years. They frequently committed burglary by riding around on bikes. They won't stay permanently in one place. Their modus operandi was to take a room and stay near the place where the theft was planned and leave after the crime. Many theft cases have been registered against them at Kayamkulam, Kumali, Kattappana, Karunagappally and Peruvanthanam stations.
