PALAKKAD: Former CPM local secretary Haridasan has been arrested in connection with the Meenakshipuram spirit case. According to reports, Haridasan appeared at the police station on Wednesday morning and surrendered. He had gone into hiding after 1,260 litres of spirit were seized from the house of a youth named Kannayyan the other day. The police registered the case after questioning Kannayyan in detail. Haridasan was named the first accused in the case, while Kannayyan was named the third accused.

Meenakshipuram Police stated that an investigation is underway to find another person who was present along with Haridasan and Kannayyan. Recently, the CPM had temporarily expelled Haridasan from the party over his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

The spirit was found during an inspection jointly conducted by a DANSAF team led by Chittur DySP P Abdul Muneer and the Meenakshipuram police at a coconut plantation in Sarkkarpathi, Meenakshipuram. The accused told the police that the spirit was brought from Goa via Tamil Nadu.
