PALAKKAD: The hospital superintendent has clarified that there was no medical malpractice in the amputation of the nine-year-old girl's arm. The hospital superintendent, Dr. Jayashree, explained that the reason for the amputation of the child's arm was not a mistake in putting on the plaster and that the wound was not deep. The superintendent said that the child was brought to the hospital on September 24, 25 and 26. The superintendent alleged that the child was not immediately brought to the hospital despite instructions to bring the child to the hospital immediately if there was any swelling. Dr. Jayashree also said that she welcomes any kind of investigation.
The superintendent's response came after the investigation report, which found no fault on the part of the hospital authorities in the incident. The report states that the girl who was taken to the Palakkad District Hospital was given proper treatment and that the blood flow in her hand had stopped when she was taken to the hospital on September 30.
The child was transferred to Kozhikode Medical College after receiving primary treatment at the Palakkad District Hospital. The matter was investigated by two doctors appointed by the Palakkad DMO. The investigation report was prepared based on the statements of the duty doctor and the head of the department. The report was handed over to the DMO. The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association also came forward to support the doctors in the matter.
