'Right foot amputated, leaving active politics for now'; CPI leader Kanam Rajendran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran's right foot was amputated due to diabetes and infection. He is firmly optimistic about returning to active politics after a small hiatus. The CPI leader is currently undergoing rest at a private hospital in Kochi. He was responding to Malayala Manorma channel.

“ I had some trouble with my left leg due to one accident. However, I never bothered to check one small bruise that I had on my right foot. The bruise remained the same and never healed due to diabetes. Even after two months, the bruise remained intact which made me approach the hospital, but by that time, the puss got on top of the foot and swelling started. Doctors told me to amputate two fingers. Three fingers were amputated during the operation. Still, the infection did not subside, and the right foot had to be amputated last Tuesday ” - said Kanam.

“ I have pain but it will subside. I will overcome this. A prosthetic foot will be fitted and I need to acclimatize to it. Doctors say it can be done in two months. An application for three months leave has been given to the party. The state executive committee meeting on the 30th will consider it. There is also a meeting of the National Executive Committee next month. The party will consider an alternative system while I go on leave” - Kanam Rajendran clarified.

Kanam said that Assistant Secretaries E Chandrasekaran, PP Suneer, Central Secretariat Member Binoy Vishwam and National Executive Committee Member K Prakash Babu will pay more attention to the party matters during his absence.
