Death of Athulya in Sharjah; Husband Satheesh arrested in Thiruvananthapuram Airport

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Satheesh Sankar, husband of Athulya of Kollam, who committed suicide in Sharjah, has been arrested. He was arrested from Thiruvananthapuram airport. The crime branch had earlier issued a lookout notice against him. Satheesh, who arrived on a flight from Dubai Sunday morning, was detained by officials of the immigration department. He was handed over to the Valiyathura police. He will be handed over to the Pathanamthitta Crime Branch soon.

The Kollam police had registered a case over her death. Satheesh was taken into custody in this case. The case of the woman's death under mysterious circumstances in Sharjah was handed over to the Pathanamthitta crime branch the other day. The investigation is presently underway by a team led by Karunagappally ASP Anjali Bhavana. Athulya was found hanging on July 19 in the flat in Sharjah where she lived with her husband Satheesh. The Chavara South Police had registered a murder case against Satheesh on the complaint filed by Athulya's family.

A forensic examination conducted in Sharjah found that there was no abnormality in the woman's death. The results of the re-postmortem conducted after the body was brought home, are awaited. Athulya’s message to her friends and relatives mentioning about his consumption of liquor and harassment, had emerged earlier. Her family alleged mystery in her death.
