KOLLAM: Police FIR stated the atrocious act of placing a telephone post twice on the railway track in Kundara was a deliberate attempt to derail the train. According to the FIR, the accused, already involved in several other criminal cases, placed the post on a railway track with clear knowledge that it could end up taking innocent lives.

Rajesh (33), a resident of Kundara Perumpuzha and Arun (39), a resident of Elambalur, were arrested in the incident. As per the accused, they placed the post on the railway track to steal the cast iron part from it. The duo admitted to using a hammer to crack open the post but to no avail. This made them choose the easy work of placing the post on the track.

On Saturday, two youths returning from Ernakulam saw the heavy post placed on the track at 1. 30 am in the morning. They rushed to Pallimukku railway gate and informed the gatekeeper Anand. According to him, a team led by Ezhukone SI arrived and moved the post from the track.

When the RPF team from Punalur arrived around 4.15 for site inspection, the post was seen again on the track at the exact location.
