Elderly couple killed after car collides with lorry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An elderly couple was killed in a road accident as their car collided with a lorry at Valakom in Kottarakkara on MC Road. The deceased Thomas Kutty (75) and his wife Shanthamma Thomas (71) reside at CF6 / 250 in PT Chacko Nagar in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The accident took place near Valakom Mercy Hospital around 6 am yesterday. The couple was on their way to the house in Kottayam Vakathanam for the memorial service of Thomas Kutty's father when the accident happened. They left Thiruvananthapuram in their own car.

The car was driven by Thomas Kutty. The car collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. Both died on the spot. The bodies were taken to Kottakkara Taluk Hospital by the fire brigade and police personnel from Valakam Aid Post. The lorry has been taken into police custody. Thomas Kutty, a former employee of the New India Insurance Company, had been working for a private financial institution in Vazhuthakkad after retiring from the service. Shanthamma is a retired employee of the Food Security Department. Both hail from Kottayam and have been living in Thiruvananthapuram for years.

The bodies kept at the Venjarammoodu Gokulam Medical College Hospital mortuary after postmortem at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital will be displayed for public viewing at the villa in Sreenakshathra Galaxy in Powdikonam on Monday. Funeral service will be held at St. John's Orthodox Cathedral. Their son is Tom, a Technopark employee. Daughter-in-law: Sharin.
