KANNUR: 14,000 poor families across the state will get free internet connection from June 22. The work to commission the first phase of KFON, the dream project of the Pinarayi government, has been accelerated. Free connection will be provided to 100 households below the poverty line in all the 140 constituencies. Beneficiaries are decided on the basis of the list provided by the local bodies.
KFON are also set up in 3,000 to 5,000 government offices every month. The cable network will connect all the 14 districts through power poles. With the completion of the project, schools, government offices, hospitals, shelters and police stations will all be covered under the KFON system.
This project provides better internet broadband connectivity across Kerala, in both rural and urban areas. It also helps to provide more possibilities. The total cost of the project is Rs 1500 crores.
