THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Complaints that Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is carrying out illegal construction activities to store waste in Kochuveli Industrial Estate. Residents associations and small business associations have come out against the dumping of waste collected by the Haritha Karma Sena on the roadside. Construction activities have been started in front of industrial units as a permanent system to store waste, following this.

Kochuveli MSME Association office bearers said that despite sending a letter to the District Industries Centre General Manager, Corporation Secretary and Chief Engineer demanding the demolition of the illegally constructed structures, no action has been taken.

Kochuveli MSME Association President IA Peter said that although waste removal is necessary, storing it in bags for months at various places is causing serious problems. It is not only affecting the parking of vehicles coming here, but also the smooth running of the activities of the industrial units. In this situation, it is demanded that the Corporation set up a system next to the railway wall, away from the industrial units.

A permanent system is being prepared by constructing concrete structures in front of MTK Chemicals in the Kochuveli industrial area and on the Thumba-All Saints College road to store waste.

Traffic congestion

The General Manager points out that the construction work is being carried out without the knowledge or consent of the District Industries Centre in charge of the Kochuveli industrial area and that such construction work is causing obstruction to the parking of vehicles entering the industrial area. In this situation, it has been requested in writing to immediately stop the construction and demolish the construction work.
