Manichan yet to pay Rs 30.45 lakh to government to get released from prison

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has issued an order on Thursday to release 33 prisoners including Manichan, the kingpin of Kalluvathukal hooch tragedy. Manichan who had five acres of land in Chirayankeezhu and a luxury house in Pulimoodu has now no means to come out of jail.

Manichan has to pay Rs 30.45 lakh as fine to the government in hooch tragedy. He will be released after paying this. He had a Benz car and many other vehicles in his possession. But they were all auctioned off to pay Rs 25 crores of tax.

The license of toddy shops was on the name of his wife, Usha. All properties under Usha's name were also confiscated. Manichan spent 22 years in prison and his wife and children wishes to get him released. But they are helpless.
