PATHANAMTHITTA: A newborn baby was found abandoned in a thattukada in Thiruvalla’s Kuttoor. The baby was found abandoned at around 4 am Sunday in a thattukada near the railway underpass on the Kuttoor-Manackachira road. The shop owner Jayarajan informed the police.

Jayarajan found the baby when he came to open his shop in the morning. Jayarajan and his wife Indu live in a house behind the shop. The police then arrived and shifted the baby to the Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital in an ambulance. The hospital authorities said the baby's health condition is satisfactory.

Meantime, the police have intensified investigation into the incident in which a two-year-old was found abandoned on the Pune-Ernakulam Express train on January 17. The police have launched a state-wide investigation to find the child's parents. It is believed that the parents may have abandoned the baby and fled between Thrissur and Aluva. The baby is presently in the care of the Child Welfare Committee. It is not clear whether the baby is a Malayali. The Ernakulam Railway Police had registered a case in the incident.
