plus-one

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The two-member committee appointed by the Education Department has recommended that more than 100 temporary batches are needed to solve the plus one seat crisis in Malappuram.

Humanities and commerce batches are required. The final decision will be taken after the approval of the cabinet. The matter will be taken up in the next cabinet meeting after taking the final figures for the supplementary allotment.

Higher Secondary Joint Director (Academic) R Suresh Kumar and Malappuram RDD Dr PN Anil were members of the committee. The report was submitted to the Minister of Education.

The two-member committee was appointed by the education department ahead of allocating temporary batches in Malappuram district, where even students who secured high marks in SSLC were not getting admission to Plus One. The committee was to determine how many batches are required.

The education department and the government were put on the defensive by the participation of ruling party student organizations in the strike. The decision to allow temporary batches was taken after the education minister held a discussion with the student organizations on June 25.
