THRISSUR: Sreelakshmi, a civil police officer at Ollur station, had come to the court to give her statement in the case of the accused assaulting a police officer at the station. Sreelakshmi started having labour pains when she arrived at the court. She was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital and gave birth to a baby boy. Sreelakshmi, who was in her last stage of pregnancy, was determined to take maternity leave only after giving her statement in the case of the accused attacking and injuring Farshad, an inspector at Ollur station.

Sreelakshmi used to come to the station for duty every day in an autorickshaw. She reached the station early yesterday, the day she was supposed to give her statement. As soon as Sreelakshmi reached the Thrissur Magistrate's Court yard in the vehicle with her colleagues, she started bleeding. This is her first delivery. Sreelakshmi's husband Ashwin is an employee of a private company. City Police Commissioner R. Ilango praised Sreelakshmi for her sincerity in performing her duties even when she needed physical rest.
