RCC TVM: Expensive medicines to be provided free to poor patients; free food for patients, caregivers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Free drug and food banks have been expanded to reach out to more poor patients of RCC. Medicines and food are currently free for F category (BPL card holders) admitted to the hospital. Henceforth, expensive chemotherapy drugs, antibiotics, disposables and supportive drugs will be distributed free of cost to these sections through the drug bank.

Free food, currently only available to patients, will also be available to caregivers. People reaching for OP service will also benefit from this scheme. Drug and Food Banks are functioning in the Patient Welfare and Service Block providing respite and ancillary services to patients and caregivers. Officials informed that free tests are also being considered for poor patients.

The project will be implemented with public participation. People willing to help can donate money. Donations can be made at RCC in person or online or by cheque/DD payable to the Director, RCC Thiruvananthapuram.
