KOZHIKODE: The heart of K Ajitha (46), a native of Chalappuram in Kozhikode, will now beat in someone else's body. Sujarina, 44, of Kozhikode North Beach Road, who is undergoing treatment at Metromed Hospital in Kozhikode, got a new lease of life through Ajitha. Ajitha's relatives expressed their willingness to donate her organs after she was declared brain dead last Thursday.

Liver, kidneys and corneas were also donated. One kidney and two corneas were donated to Kozhikode Government Medical College and one kidney and liver to Kozhikode Baby Memorial Hospital.

The heart transplant surgery was successfully completed under the leadership of Dr. V. Nandakumar, Chief Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgeon at Metromed International Cardiac Centre. The liver transplant surgery was led by Dr. Biju IK, Dr. Shailesh Aikot, and Dr. Rajesh MC, and the kidney transplant was led by Dr. Sunil George, Dr. Paulose Chally, and Dr. Anjana.

Support from Mrithasanjeevani

Ajitha was admitted to Baby Hospital on September 28th following cardiac arrest. Arrangements for organ donation were made quickly in connection with Mrithasanjeevani. The procedure and coordination were led by K-SOTTO. Ajitha's husband is P Raveendran. Her children are P Sarangi (White School, Kozhikode) and P Sarath. Son-in-law: Mithun (Indian Army).

I am grateful to the relatives who were willing to donate their organs even in extreme grief. Tributes to Ajitha.
