KOCHI: K J Shine, CPM leader and former candidate from the Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency, has lodged complaints with the Chief Minister, the Police Chief, and the Women’s Commission against a slander campaign targeting her.
The campaign claimed that Shine was found in suspicious circumstances at her residence with a CPM MLA about a week ago.
In her Facebook post, Shine wrote that those behind the campaign should stop this “cheap politics of stripping others to cover up one’s own nakedness.”
CPM Ernakulam district secretary S Satheesh alleged that false propaganda against Shine was being spread to cover up the Congress party’s decline. He said the issue would be dealt with both legally and politically. Referring to the serious allegations against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, Satheesh added that Kerala has already recognised the “decayed face” of the Congress party.
Vypin MLA K N Unnikrishnan said the slander campaign was aimed at protecting vested political interests, settling personal scores, and tarnishing Shine’s political career. He described it as a desperate move to revive the crumbling Congress and vowed to fight it politically and legally.
Meanwhile, Ernakulam DCC president Muhammad Shiyas said the controversy was the result of infighting and power struggles within the CPM. He argued that it should not be blamed on Congress, and that it was for the CPM district leadership to investigate how internal disputes had led to such issues.
