Gave the caption 'Swarnakkallan' to CM's photo; police register case against 19-year-old

KANNUR: Police have registered a case against a 19-year-old boy for sharing an edited image on social media defaming Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The accused has been identified as Anunand, a native of Pachapoika in Kannur. The case was filed based on a complaint by a CPM worker.

According to the complaint, the boy shared an edited image of the Chief Minister with the caption “Swarnakkallan" (gold thief) written below it. The image was posted on a page named 'Priyadarshini Olayikkara.'

The FIR states that the act was intended to defame the Chief Minister and deliberately create unrest through social media. It also mentions that the post caused mental distress to the complainant and CPM workers and was provocative in nature. The complaint was filed by Sudheer, a native of Pinarayi.

The page Priyadarshini Olayikkara is known for sharing posts supporting the Congress party. Its description includes phrases like 'Olayikkara is a Congress village' and 'Fearless Against Compromise.'
