THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The father of Jesna Maria, the graduate student who disappeared under mysterious circumstances years ago, has filed a petition seeking further investigation into her disappearance. The petition has demanded that the final report submitted by CBI in the case should be rejected and further investigation should be conducted. The court accepted the petition. The CBI has been given two weeks to file its reply.

According to the petition, Jesna went missing between Pulinkunnu and Mundakayam and the CBI investigation did not reach these places. The petition alleges that a friend who studied with her for her degree cheated and misused Jesna and that the CBI did not investigate the reasons behind Jesna's physical problems. Jesna had gone to NSS camps outside the college. The petition states that no investigation was conducted in this regard and the CBI investigation failed. The inquiry has not reached the five friends who studied with Jesna. This has also been pointed out in the petition.

Meanwhile, the CBI had earlier submitted a report to the court seeking permission to close the investigation of the case. The CBI investigation report states that Jesna could not be confirmed dead. The CBI also found that no religious extremist organization was involved in Jesna's disappearance. The same things were found in the investigation by the Kerala Police.

Jesna who went to her paternal aunt's house on March 22, 2018, has not been seen since. The case investigated by the local police and crime branch was taken over by the CBI in February 2021 as per the direction of the High Court. Although an accused in a theft case testified that he knew about the disappearance, the CBI did not confirm it. Jesna had nothing but a few books with her at the time of disappearance.

It was indicated that she reached Mukkoottuthara, three and a half kilometres away from her home by autorickshaw and from there boarded a bus to Mundakayam going via Erumeli. This was also stated by some passengers. A classmate was questioned following the information that she had gone with her friend in Punchavayal. CCTV footage from Erumeli showed two other suspects walking suspiciously, but they have not been identified.
