SULTAN BATHERY: Vehicular traffic in the area where the landslide occurred at the Thamarassery Pass View Point has been partially restored. After 26 hours of work, vehicles were allowed to pass through the pass by 8 pm. Vehicles stuck at the View Point will be taken to the foothills, and then the vehicles stuck at the foothills will be taken to the View Point area. After the vehicles stuck on both sides are cleared, the pass will be closed today as a safety precaution. The traffic ban on the pass will continue, said District Collector D. R. Meghasree, who is also the Chairperson of the Disaster Management Authority. The authorities said that normal traffic will be allowed after a safety inspection tomorrow morning.
The landslide occurred at the view point at the ninth bend around 7 pm last night. Large rocks, trees and dirt fell in this area. While efforts were being made to remove it, another landslide occurred. A small road was constructed in this area to allow the vehicles stuck there to pass since last night. Continuous rain and heavy fog had created a crisis. The work is progressing using two earthmoving machines. The collector and public representatives had come here to monitor the situation.
