MALAPPURAM: There are indications that P.V. Anvar may contest in the Nilambur by-election. Reports suggest that this decision was made in the Trinamool Congress secretariat. It was agreed in the meeting that Anvar would withdraw his candidacy only if the party becomes a constituent of the UDF. The official announcement of the candidate is expected tomorrow.
Meanwhile, P.V. Anvar has not denied the news of his potential candidacy. When asked whether he would contest, Anvar told the media, “I will respond to that tomorrow.”
Earlier, Anvar had strongly criticised Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan. He alleged that the AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal declined to hold discussions with him because Satheesan had threatened to resign. Anvar accused Satheesan of trying to sideline him.
“I have no personal issue with V.D. Satheesan. Yet, there seems to be a hidden agenda behind the way I’m being treated. I’m trying to find out what that is — and I believe I have a fair idea. Satheesan’s goal with this election is to politically destroy Anvar. But I’m not falling into that trap,” he said.
