THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the official announcement of Rajeev Chandrasekhar as the BJP state president, the party is aiming for a new political experiment in Kerala. If Rajeev is made the new state chief after avoiding the powerful leaders of the state leadership, that means the Centre has the right plans in mind. However, it remains to be seen how much of a challenge Kerala will pose to Rajeev, who thinks that he is not at all skilled in the tactics of front politics, whether it is the Sangh Parivar background or the local body elections. What will be the challenges Rajeev will face, including the local body and assembly elections, and the group squabbles among the leaders in Kerala?
Rajeev is taking up the post by resisting all the expectations of the P K Krishnadas-V Muralidharan faction. The central leadership is aware that the biggest obstacle to the party's growth in the state is the group fight among the leaders. The central leadership has received a report that if someone from either side takes the post of president, there will be no change in it. Rajeev was appointed to the post in that situation. However, taking two groups together will be a challenge for Rajeev.
Another challenge facing Rajeev is the upcoming local body and assembly elections. K Surendran is stepping down from the post of chief, believing that Suresh Gopi's victory and increase in vote share in the Lok Sabha elections are his ability. It is Rajeev's responsibility to coordinate the leaders and achieve success in the upcoming local body elections. However, Rajeev does not maintain a close relationship or contact with district leaders or important leaders in the state. Rajeev's work in Kerala will have to overcome these shortcomings.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar's political career began when he entered the Rajya Sabha as an independent from Karnataka. Rajeev does not have the political field of activity available to leaders who have reached the state leadership in Kerala. Rajeev has not yet been able to establish close ties with organisations like the Sangh Parivar or RSS. Rajeev, who came to Kerala in the last Lok Sabha elections, may also face challenges due to his lack of experience in frontline politics. However, his supporters mainly point to Rajeev's ability to quickly overcome all his shortcomings.
