vadakara

KOZHIKODE: The election heat is intensifying in Kadathanadu. All three fronts have entered the battlefront with determination and vigour to win the Vadakara constituency. The battle is unpredictable in Vadakara where TP Chandrasekaran's party RMPI is also in the field.

KK Shailaja is LDF's candidate this time. The front has fielded KK Shailaja was fielded by describing her as 'Unniyarcha'. Having covered every nook and cranny of the constituency, the front has almost completed the first phase of campaigning. Although the UDF has not officially announced its candidate, K Muraleedharan is most likely to be the candidate. There is no dimming of glory when he contests from the constituency for the second time. Muraleedharan is also busy attending family meetings and inaugurations. Meanwhile, the NDA has fielded a newcomer in Vadakara- Yuva Morcha state president Praphul Krishnan. Although a newcomer, Praphul Krishnan is a resident of the constituency and knows every corner of Vadakara very well. The crowd is becoming excited as the trio fills the arena.

Till 2009, the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency was an iron fortress of the CPM. However, the constituency is currently in the hands of the Congress. CPM's last victory in Vadakara was in 2004. Adv.P. Sathidevi was the candidate then. Sathidevi won by a majority of more than one lakh and thirty thousand votes that day. However, the story changed in 2009, the story changed. TP Chandrasekaran left the party and formed the Revolutionary Marxist Party. This adversely affected the CPM. Although Sathidevi contested for the second time, Congress's Mullapally Ramachandran defeated her by a majority of half a lakh votes. In 2014, Mullappally defeated AN Shamseer. In 2019, the CPM fielded P Jayarajan to win back the constituency. However, Jayarajan had to concede defeat before K Muraleedharan. The 2024 election is a life-and-death battle for the Left in Vadakara. The herculean task before the party is to overcome the uproar over the double life sentence in the TP Chandrasekaran case. Vadakara is now the VIP constituency that Kerala is looking forward to.
