KAZHAKKOOTTAM: Protests have intensified against the incident where a newly admitted student was given transfer certificate for wearing hijab. The student had joined the eighth standard at a Higher Secondary School in Kazhakkoottam. Youth Congress activists staged protests in front of the school. Protests of student unions is also underway.

The student had pursued her studies until the seventh standard at a school in the city. As her family shifted their residence to Kadinamkulam, the school was also changed. Her parents said that she wore hijab at the time of entrance exams and interview but the school authorities didn’t say anything back then. However, when the student came to study, the school authority told her that hijab is not permitted. They asked her to get a TC and leave if she is persistent on wearing it.
