Police vehicles for relatives to attend IPS wedding: more than 10 vehicles used in Kochi

KOCHI: As the controversy raged over revenue employees taking mass leave to go on an excursion and attend a marriage, police cars were released en masse to those who attended the wedding of a young IPS officer. The policemen were responsible for picking up the relatives at the airport and taking them to the hotels. They performed the role in mufti.

The guests who came for Thrissur IR Battalion Commandant Haryana native Padamsingh's wedding were dropped off and picked up like this. The wedding was held in a five-star hotel yesterday. More than ten vehicles were plying from morning till night to take relatives and friends who arrived at Nedumbassery airport to five-star hotels. Apart from the vehicles of the IR battalion, the silo used earlier by the Kochi City Police Commissioner and two vehicles of the collectorate was misused in this way.

The violation happened when night patrols have been cut down, due to the fuel shortage, including in Kochi. The police have started an internal investigation. Officials say that the city police vehicle was not released. But it has run more than 300 km. The vehicle's license plates were hidden so that the violation of the law would not be known. The duty of the policemen was to load the luggage into the vehicles. Its footage has also come out.

Officials need permission to use government vehicles for personal purposes. Payment should also be made on the basis of kilometers. But police vehicles are not provided for that purpose.
