Center releases digital blueprint of Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station renovation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Central government to modernize Thiruvananthapuram Central, the biggest railway station in the state, on the model of an airport. The Ministry of Railways has released the digital outline of the railway station renovation through its Facebook and Twitter accounts. The renovation project is expected to cost Rs 400 crore.

The renovation will retain only the existing heritage building and railway line. The Bengaluru-based Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) is responsible for the construction. The RLDA authorities had been holding talks with the Railways since December. The target is to complete the construction within three years.

Drastic change

As part of the expansion of the existing terminal building, an additional storey will rise above the two storeys. An airport-style waiting center will also be prepared next to the first platform. A rest hall (concourse area) will be set up here. There will be a ticketing area, waiting lounges, food court, commercial area, and TTE restroom. A dormitory will be provided on the upper floors.
