Leopard spotted again in Pampa, devaswom board reluctant to turn on street lights citing financial crisis

PATHANAMTHITTA: Leopards are frequently spotted in Pampa and surrounding areas after the Sabarimala temple's closure. The other day, a video of a tiger lying in front of Pampa's guard room circulated on social media. The tiger caught six dogs near the Ganesha temple area. Therefore, after dusk, the employees and the police here cannot go out. No street lights are switched on at Pampa and Sannidhanam after the close of Sabarimala temple.

The street lights at Ganapathi Kovil, Pampa Manalppuram, Thriveni petrol pump, police station and repair office are not switched on, so the employees there do not come out after 5.30 pm. Devaswom Board has written to KSEB not to switch on the street lights due to a financial crisis. The Pampa police sent a message to the district police chief and the district collector, asking them to turn on at least the street lights in the necessary places due to the leopard menace. After the pilgrimage season, wild animals are also frequently spotted in Pampa.
