THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Traffic restrictions will be imposed in Thiruvananthapuram city from tomorrow afternoon on the occasion of Attukal Pongala. Along with traffic restrictions, police and fire force departments have issued guidelines as safety precautions. The city police commissioner said that those who are coming to take part in Pongala should not park their vehicles on the temple premises or on the national highway.
The fire force department has also made preparations for the smooth conduct of Pongala in view of the intense heat. 300 fire force personnel have been deployed in the city. Safety arrangements have been made to prevent the possibility of fire. The fire department has also issued directions to halt petrol stations and gas godowns from operating during Pongala hours in regions where Pongala is being held.
The health department has prepared a special medical team. The services of civil defence volunteers, including women, will be available Attukal temple area, Thampanoor, Killipalam, Attakulangara and the outer city. Meanwhile, KSEB informed that Pongala should be held only by maintaining a safe distance from transformers.
