ff

THRISSUR: The Catholic Church has launched an open protest against the government, alleging that the drama 'Kakkukali’ depicts convents as rape centres. After reading the protest letter in churches on Sunday, Thrissur Archdiocese conducted a march to Thrissur collectorate.

The KCBC and the Catholic Church are strongly criticizing the department of cultural affairsand the Sangeet Natak Akademi for supporting the drama presented by the Neyythal group in Alappuzha. Minister VN Vasavan and CPM State Secretary MV Govindan had come to watch the play at Akademi’s International Drama Festival (ITFOC). The minister also congratulated the actors.

The Christian organisations demanded to ban the screening. They allege that the ‘kakkukali’ play insults the religious beliefs and values.
