Clash breaks out when police try to stop opposition’s besiege at Kochi Corporation

strike

KOCHI: The opposition is besieging the corporation office to protest the attack on opposition councillors by the police when they came for the corporation council meeting. The blockade started Thursday morning at 5 am. Considering the possibility of a clash, a large contingent of police have been deployed in the place. Shortly after the blockade started, there was a clash between the activists and the police. The police removing the chairs placed by the Congress workers in front of the samara pandal and in front of the corporation office, led to the clash. The police were against the strike blocking the road. However, the activists are firm in their stand of staging the strike. DCC chief Muhammad Shias accused the police of deliberately trying to create trouble.

KPCC chief K Sudhakaran will inaugurate the siege in the morning. The strike will be till 5 pm. The protesters said that no one including the employees, will be allowed to enter the office. Many activists reached the spot since morning. Other demands of the protesters are a CBI probe on Brahmapuram fire and the mayor’s resignation.
