TIRUR: An orthopaedic doctor of Manjeri Medical College was held for serving in a private hospital in Tirur. He has been identified as Dr A Abdul Gafoor, assistant professor of ortho department. A vigilance team led by DySP Firos M Shafeeq arrested him while he was examining patients at Mission Hospital at Poongottukulam in Tirur.

The complaint is that he has been treating patients for a long time in violation of the rule that doctors of government medical colleges should not do private practice. The DySP said that a detailed report would be submitted to the vigilance director and further action would be taken later. The doctor's statement has been recorded. Vigilance sub inspector Srinivasan and senior CPOs Prajith, Salim and Subin were also present in the team.
